TEXT: Astragalus coccineus (Fabaceae) Having replied to Hubert's query on Astragalus coccineus here is a photo of one of my plants for all to see. Astragalus coccineus grows from California to Arizona on gravely ridges and in canyons at up to 2100 metres where the soil is quite dry. During the summer months it suffers austere and desiccating conditions almost as severe as those experienced by Lewisia rediviva. The photo shown was taken two years ago and is of one of my exhibition plants.
