| TEXT: Clematis fremontii (Ranunculaceae) At the
East Cheshire show last month I exhibited Clematis fremontii. No one at
the show had ever seen this Clematis before so I thought perhaps many others
who hadn't attended the show may like to see it. I became interested in
this non vining Clematis after seeing the photo on page 179 of the ARGS
(as it was then) bulletin of Summer 1990. Further information also appears
on page 182 in the same bulletin. (Volume 48 No. 3). The plant was grown
from seed received from Dyck Arboretum and had been collected in Cloud
County, Kansas, 22 September 1990. Seed was sown as per their instructions,
3 months cold/moist stratification, taken from the fridge and sown 26th
May 1992. It germinated in September of that year. It first flowered in
1996 but has not set viable seed and the few cuttings that I have taken
haven't rooted. If anyone out there either works/ has contacts/influence/relatives
at the Arboretum PLEASE I would like some more seed. |
