TEXT: A couple of photos of Helichrysum retortum ( Asteraceae ), which is making a bold splash on our rock garden at the moment. The only books I have which mention it are Will Ingwersen's Manual and The Present Day Rock Garden by Sampson Clay, neither of which say where it's from. I think it's probably South African - anybody care to confirm or deny?
