| The
Holker Hall Great Garden and Countryside Festival is well established and
has become the premier horticultural event in North West England.
The North Lancs. Group of the Alpine Garden Society has entered a display there for each of the past five years. In that time it has won a silver gilt medal, two Gold medals and two Large Gold Medals and two Best in Show Cups. 1999 was a vintage year for the Group when its display "Alpines around the World" won a Large Gold Medal and a Best in Show Cup. The Group welcomes new members to its winter meetings on the third Thursday in each month from September to April. These take place at the Unitarian Church Hall, Scotforth, on the A6 just south of Lancaster city centre. She was quietly chuffed when I asked her for the priviledge of using her name, that ocassion remains my fondest memory of her.
